Media release: National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Award

Labor congratulates Ngoia Napaltjarri Pollard, the recipient of this year’s Telstra National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Award for her painting Swamps West of Nyirripi.

The award recognises the depth and success of the Indigenous art industry, which is now estimated to be worth between ,00 million and $300 million a year and makes a significant economic contribution to many Indigenous communities.

Now in its 23rd year the prestigious National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Award is the premier Indigenous art prize in the country.

Past winners include Gulumbu Yunupingu, Dorothy Napangardi and Gawirrin Gumana.

Congratulations to the other winners including Linda Syddick Napaltjarri for The Witch Doctor and the Windmill, Samuel Namunjdja for Gungura, Judy Watson who won for works on paper and Baluka Maymuru, who received the Wandjuk Marika 3-D memorial award for Dhakandjali.
