Media release: Launch of Sims e-waste facility, 19 Nov 08

I joined my colleague Jason Clare, the Federal Member for Blaxland, at the new Sims E-recycling facility at Villawood in Sydney.

We welcome the development of recycling plants capable of processing electronic waste.

Sims is expecting this facility will divert up to 20,000 tonnes of material from landfill per year and recycle up to 98 per cent of the material that passes through its front gate.

Pete's tips

Use lights efficiently

» Rooms are often excessively lit. Make sure you are not using a higher wattage bulb than is necessary.
» Turn off unnecessary lights, including fluorescent lamps especially if leaving a room for more than ten minutes.
» Clean light fittings regularly to allow more light to pass through.
» Decorating with light coloured finishes and furnishings can allow lighting levels to be reduced.
