Peter Garrett MP
Member for Kingsford Smith
Shadow Parliamentary Secretary for Reconciliation and the Arts

“The passing of Donald Horne today means Australia has lost one of our great public intellectuals”, Peter Garrett, the Shadow Parliamentary Secretary for Reconciliation and the Arts, said today.

“I knew Donald Horne over a period of years and consider him to be one of Australia’s foremost thinkers and contributors to public life. His lifelong commitment to the cause of this nation becoming a republic, where political and artistic life played a central role, was exemplary.”

“Donald Horne’s career of great accomplishment is exemplified by his many roles including editor of the Bulletin magazine, Chair of the Australia Council, Chancellor of the University of Canberra, prolific author and academic. His impact and influence is immeasurable and he will be very sorely missed.”
