Peter Garrett MP
Member for Kingsford Smith
Shadow Parliamentary Secretary for Reconciliation and the Arts
“It gives me great pleasure to extend my congratulations to Esme Timbery, this year’s winner of the inaugural Parliament of NSW Indigenous Art Prize”, the Member for Kingsford Smith and Shadow Parliamentary Secretary for Reconciliation and the Arts, Peter Garrett, said today.
“Residents of La Perouse, Esme and her family have a long tradition of ‘shellworking’, a form synonymous with the Bidjigal people. The winning art work, Blue shellworked bridges, maintains this wonderful tradition.”
“The high standard of works submitted reinforces the need for such an award. Congratulations to all of the artists who contributed works and I look forward to enjoying the exhibition in Parliament House.”
